Low Vision

In addition to a full-scope family practice, Dr. Cummings offers low vision examinations for the partially sighted. Low vision is when a patient’s vision is reduced and cannot be improved by traditional glasses or contact lenses.

The loss of vision may be caused by certain eye diseases such as macular degeneration and glaucoma, or diabetic changes and high blood pressure changes to the eye.

During a low vision exam the quantity and quality of vision remaining will be evaluated. After this evaluation, certain devices such as magnifiers, high powered reading glasses, Closed Circuit Televisions, filters and other life-style enhancing products will be evaluated.

It is important to remember that using our eyes does not make the eyes weaker; it only helps make them stronger!
